COSMOS as seen by teachers and students

One of the socioscientific issues investigated by secondary school pupils in a school near Southampton, UK was teenage vaping. In this video, Mrs Gemma Hortop, the science teacher who worked on this issue with her pupils and the UK COSMOS partners provides an account of her experiences and reflections of taking part in COSMOS. Some of the pupils also feature talking about what they have learned and what they think should be done about teenage vaping in their community.

You can find more information about the vaping unit and strategies used to support student participation with SSIBL in this presentation, used for a workshop at the COSMOS final conference.

Two primary school teachers from Sweden share their experience of working with the COSMOS project during spring 2024. Even though they worked at primary school level their choice of SSI was on Genetically Modified Organisms 8GMO) which is a topic that usually is covered at secondary school level. However, the teachers followed the interest from their young students and it turned out to be a successful strategy based on the students' engagement. The GMO project was done in collaboration with Karlstad University and the Alma Löv museum of unexp art.
